Step 3: Importing Your Member Information

Learn how to import your current membership list into Communal

Your new Communal instance is designed to be the central hub for managing all your memberships going forward - say goodbye to spreadsheets!

There are two ways to add your members to the database: you can do it manually as an Admin, or you can perform a Bulk Import of ALL your membership information. Additionally, you have the option to include past years' data, enabling you to reach out to past members and encourage them to engage with your League once again.

Our goal is to make it as simple as possible for you to add your members and their respective information to your membership database.

To facilitate this, you'll need to pass us a CSV file of your current membership information. We've created an import template to present the typical fields we use in the database. This template includes all of Communal's default fields and has suggestions for custom fields. If you have additional columns (volunteering interests, special tags, voting rights, etc), feel free to include them and we can let you know what can be preserved.

  1. Download the Communal import template here
  2. Align your current membership spreadsheet to match the template to the best of your ability
  3. Once you've pulled all your members into a CSV (formatted per the above), send it to help@getcommunal.com
  4. We will be in contact shortly after to ask any questions before importing the data
  5. Finally, you'll be notified once the import is complete
